How Apple Intelligence could avoid Microsoft and Google's AI mistakes
Apple's spin on AI is finally here, and it already seems smarter than Microsoft Copilot and Google Bard. Apple Intelligence focuses on privacy and "personal intelligence," with a bit of an assist from ChatGPT. While we haven't tested it ourselves yet, Apple appears to be avoiding the pitfalls of Microsoft's Recall feature, as well as Google Bard's unfortunate early gaffes. The company isn't trying to capture everything you're doing on your computer, and it's being careful about how it's using larger AI models like ChatGPT. Shortly after the WWDC 2024 keynote ended, Engadget's Cherlynn Low and Devindra Hardawar discussed why they think Apple is taking a more thoughtful approach to AI.
Five AI mistakes and how to avoid them in your organisation
You need to collect the right data, find the right tools for your organisation, and team members need to be trained on how to build and optimise the AI models. However, even if you have found the right AI for your business and it's been onboarded well, there's still the risk that you will not be getting what you want or need from it. If an AI mistake is made, it has varying levels of severity. For example, AI that predicts real estate prices (similar to Zillow's recent issues) but isn't set up properly can result in over or under-evaluations. AI that is used to predict cryptocurrency trading trends, but doesn't get retrained on new data could lead to missed opportunities. However, for a business that is looking to adopt AI to improve processes and make them more efficient, even the smallest mistake can result in lost productivity, money, or reputation.
Fed Up With AI Mistakes? Blockchain Startup Follows 'Wikipedia Model' to Make It Better
Artificial intelligence (AI) is advancing by leaps and bounds, with exciting new applications launching every day. But a blockchain-based startup believes the transition from an "information economy" to an "intelligence economy" will prove a bumpy ride for many people. Large corporations have built most of the common AI systems that many people use today. CEN says this centralization has the danger of monopolizing AI – leaving most of us out of the loop. According to CEN, this is not the only problem.
What we can learn from AI mistakes
AI has been making a lot of progress lately by almost any standard. It has quietly become part of our world, powering markets, websites, factories, business processes and soon our houses, our cars and everything around us. But the biggest recent successes have also come with surprising failures. Tesla impressed the world by launching a self driving car, but then crashed in cases a human would have easily handled. AlphaGo beat the human champion Go player years before most experts possible, but completely collapsed after its opponent played an unusual move.
